Pai is a small town in Mae Hong Son. I went there during my trip to Chiang Mai. Pai is 2.30 hours drive from Chiang Mai. The bus from Chiang Mai to Pai is 150B and leaves nearly every hour. Pai is a really peaceful city with beatiful nature. I like to visit Pai when I want to escape from the city and do nothing there. This city is well know by Lonely Planet. I also found this town by LP! As this town is situated in the northern part of Thailand. The citiy is quite cold during November until March and is the best period of the year to visit. There are also some of the attraction by the city. For instance, Tha Pai Hot Spring, where you can relax and have a hot bath at the resort near the hot spring. Also, there's a temple called Wat Phra That Mae Yen where you can see the beautiful scenery of Pai town and enjoy the sunset view from the temple. There's also some attraction outside Pai such as Huay Nam Dang National Park, Pai Canyon, Wat Nam Hoo and so on.
In the late afternoon, there's a local market on Rasdamrond Rd. where local shop for food and ingredients. I've seen a lot of stuff I couldn't find in BKK or something I used to see long time ago. At night, there're a lot of peaceful bars which are really good place to chill and relax. The music is not too loud. A lot of stalls are selling local food and souvenirs from the hill tribes. I've seen more farang (foreigner) in this town more than Thai. Maybe because most Thai doesn't know that this city exist. Well, if I have chance I will definately visit Pai again.
